ELL CEO Christian Kern:
“Some people say: The rail business is all about complex technology, heavy iron, huge amounts of reinforced concrete and enormous investments. Sure, that’s a major part of the fascination. But what really makes the difference in turning a rail company into a top performer are the people and their commitment. And, of course, a vision that everyone shares. Our employees are the decisive factor when it comes to the company’s success. As a company, we therefore attach great importance to transparent and trusting communication in order to create a working environment in which everyone can grow a little every day. And the great thing is that it is also a lot of fun to help build a “Great Place to Work”.”

ELL Job Profiles
We offer various job opportunities across our portfolio. Our lean organizational structure gives our employees great career opportunities as experts in their personal areas of expertise.
Service Technology
Our service technicians have technical training (preferably in electrical engineering and mechatronics) and carry out corrective and preventive work on ELL locomotives. Regular training and certifications are an important aspect. The work area is very much characterized by independent work. A willingness to travel and learn round off the job profile of service technicians.
“It’s a very varied job. Despite my many years as a service technician, I’m always learning new things. One plus point: I’ve already seen a lot of Europe thanks to the large area of operation of the ELL locomotives.” – Oliver
Technology
We have two different technical areas: Technical Projects and Vehicle Technology. Our technicians have an HTL, FH or TU degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and mechatronics – some of them also specialize in railroad engineering and rail vehicle construction. The technicians’ areas of expertise are issues relating to the overhaul of ELL locomotives, proper documentation and support for colleagues in Service Engineering. This involves not only defining the process, but also negotiating contracts and coordinating with materials management and the workshops.
“Even as an experienced technician, I’m often confronted with new challenges – I like that because I’m constantly learning new things. The tasks are varied and I have a lot of contact with colleagues from other departments, but also with external partner companies.” – Tobias
Fleet Management
The fleet managers are the point of contact for customers; they hold discussions with partners and plan the preventive and corrective maintenance of our locomotives. A good technical understanding and an interest in logistics are useful for this. The colleagues in Fleet Management currently look after around 230 Vectron locomotives.
“The working days are not monotonous, there are new, exciting challenges every day. Each of us looks after specific locomotives and customers. I like the fact that I am responsible for my own work and can organize my own day, but at the same time I have a team that supports me on stressful days.” – Andrea
Material Management
Our colleagues in materials management are responsible for the planning, organization and implementation of all logistics processes, as well as the procurement of materials. This also includes coordinating the reconditioning of components. ELL material managers have a commercial or logistics background and experience in spare parts supply and repair processing.
“I originally come from the automotive world and have been able to put my experience to good use at ELL. I like the contact with my colleagues and the fact that we all have a common goal: that our ELL locomotives are on track.” – Robert
Commercial Professions and IT
Of course, colleagues in commercial areas also work at ELL: we also have the Sales, Finance, Human Resources and Marketing departments at ELL.
“We have many points of contact with other departments in accounting – this gives me a better understanding of the entire ELL world, which in turn helps me in my work. I like the fact that I can also contribute my knowledge outside of accounting topics.” – Tengyue (Finance)
Our IT department deals with topics relating to strategic IT management and drives the digitalization and further development of ELL’s system landscape.
“The world of railroads was completely new to me. I like the fact that I can get to know it at ELL. Due to our organizational structure, the topics in IT are varied and I can gain an insight into many topics and tasks.” – Tetiana (IT)
